Provence with kids: 5 places your family will love
Lavender fields, hilltop villages and turquoise water: Provence is one of the easiest destinations to enjoy with children. Here are my five favourite stops, tested with my own family.
1. Avignon
The Palais des Papes, little streets and carousel rides: Avignon has a wonderful family atmosphere. Visit the palace in the morning, then let the city carry you through the afternoon.
2. Pont du Gard
Perfect for a picnic, with swimming spots at the foot of the Roman aqueduct. A historical visit that kids enjoy as much as their parents.
3. Les Baux-de-Provence
A magical medieval village with stunning views and easy, family-friendly walks.
4. Carrières des Lumières
An immersive art experience projected onto the walls of former quarries. Kids and adults both love it.
5. Cassis
Boat rides, beaches and turquoise water: the perfect family day to end your stay.
- Take a boat trip through the Calanques
- Wander around Cassis old town
- Stop at the port for the views
- Drive the coastal Corniche roads and pull over at the hidden viewpoints
- Enjoy fresh seafood by the harbour, and don't skip the ice cream stop
Where to stay with kids
Provence has beautiful hotels designed for families: kids' clubs, nature activities, pools and wide open spaces. Parents relax while the children have the time of their lives. For each family, I select the hotel that fits their budget and their children's ages.
